All About Mark Grills

PROFILE

My work revolves around the manipulation of paper. I find that paper can be of a good quality to construct with to give, what is usually used for drawing onto, a structure yet still allowing for that fragility of the paper itself. I also take this manipulation of the paper and incorporate it in print making, turning the structure into a 2D piece, flattening the structure itself.
Working mainly in print, I focus working with black and white allowing for the dark and light properties of paper structures to be visualised. I always take two prints from the same stencil as I like getting the ghost print as it reveals parts of the stencil that was not there previously. I have stumbled in and out of the use of colour, more so in recent works looking at the psychological effects of colour dealing with self.
Self is a very important when coming to my work as it is representing what my mind thinks and sees into the paper. It is the minds process of the physical and emotional experience.
